Oct. 10 township trustees meeting

Sagamore residents Ray and Jean Dolezal were recognized for celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary on Oct. 16.

The couple has lived in the township since the late 90s, and has eight children, many of whom attended the meeting.

Trustee John Zaccardelli presented the Dolezals with a proclamation noting their “example of commitment and dedication in family values.” The U.S. Senate also sent a congratulatory proclamation.

Trustees approved hiring Greg Foth and Glenn Lucore as part-time snowplow drivers for the winter. Money from the general fund was moved to the road department fund to “make sure next year is well-funded,” said Trustee Paul Schweikert.

Schweikert also took a moment to recognize former township road department employee Doug Kiesel, who passed away this fall at the age of 61. He said Kiesel worked for Sagamore Hills for 23 years and would be missed. Kiesel hand-painted all the township’s entry signs.

Around the township

Township Attorney Jeff Snell gave an update on the dynamite blasting to be done at the Parkview Senior Living site at Route 82 and Carter Road. Blasting was slated to begin in November in three-day periods for a span of approximately 45 days, dependent on weather. Snell said the blasting would be done 10-13 feet underground to create space for utility connections and would sound like a series of shots.

Schweikert reminded residents to lock their cars and remove valuable items when the vehicle is unattended. He cited an example of cars being broken into in parking lots near the Metro Parks and Bike & Hike Trail. ∞
