Brecksville Kiwanis awards $17,500 in scholarships
The Brecksville Kiwanis Club awarded $17,500 in scholarships to high school seniors this past April. Kiwanis scholarships are awarded to individuals who provide exemplary service to their community and are not necessarily based upon grades. At the Kiwanis’s annual scholarship reception on April 25, 11 graduating seniors were recognized for their outstanding service and commitment to the community.
The top scholarship awarded was the $2,000 Elton Lube Scholarship which went to Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School senior Kate Butler. Additionally, the James McCallister Scholarship, in memory of a beloved local Kiwanian, is awarded to the candidate who most exemplifies selfless service and giving to the community. BBHHS senior Genevieve Dachtler was awarded this $1,500 scholarship.
Several other $1,500 scholarships were awarded to deserving students intending to pursue specific professions. The Kay Lube Scholarship was awarded to Ava Fernandez. Maansi Mahalaha was awarded the Dr. Dasarathi and Pat Ram Scholarship and Lily Laszlo was awarded the Bob Wisner Scholarship. The following students were also recognized for their service to the community with a $1,500 Kiwanis scholarship: Bridget Butler, Ella DeTray, Benjamin Gawlik, Nikolina Racic, Ivana Veljkovic and Calix Zukauckas. ∞
