Honor someone with a memorial tree or bench

Efforts to remember someone after they have passed often seem inadequate. Planting a tree that can grow for decades, or providing a bench that can offer a quiet place of reflection, provides a nice option.

Richfield Village has a program in which someone can purchase a tree or bench and the village will install it in one of its parks.

Participants can choose to have a tree planted in Richfield Woods, Eastwood Preserve, Carter Pedigo Trial, Town Hall Park or Babb’s Orchard Park. They can also choose the type of tree. The village will apply a plaque and plant the tree. Trees cost between $119 and $179.

Participants can also choose to sponsor a weather-hardy bench, hand made by Ohio Hardwood Furniture, a Richfield business. The approximate cost to sponsor a bench is $1,200, which includes three lines of engraving.

The village offers the tree-planting service two times a year, in the spring and fall. The next deadline to order a tree or bench for 2024 is Sept. 1.

The village will pour concrete pads for benches in the spring and summer, but applications are taken and planning is done throughout the year.
