Congratulations to the Akron Garden Club on its 100th anniversary. Founded in 1924 by Gertrude Seiberling in the Music Room of Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, the club has been a cornerstone of beauty and environmental stewardship in our community. In its first century, Akron Garden Club donated more than $700,000 to organizations serving a diverse range of local communities. As a member of the prestigious Garden Club of America since 1945, the Akron Garden Club has excelled in horticulture, conservation and creative arts.

The club’s centennial celebration on Sept. 15 featured the unveiling of a new native plant garden at Cascade Valley Metro Park. The club donated nearly $100,000 towards the creation of the garden and raised about 2,000 plants from seed. Club members and community volunteers planted the expansive garden in just three days.

“This garden is our anniversary gift from Akron Garden Club to the community,” said Elise Bennett, a Bath resident and president of the club. “Our intention was to beautify the area as well as educate the public on the importance of native plants and the pollinators they support.”

The Akron Garden Club’s dedication to enhancing our environment and fostering creativity is truly commendable. Here’s to a century of growth, beauty and community service!

In support of local causes, Bath resident Myriam Altieri-Haslinger will host a luxury pop-up fashion boutique at the Akron Art Museum on Oct. 17 and 18. The event will feature limited edition cashmere, jewelry and accessories from Haslinger’s “The Italian Collection.” Proceeds will benefit the Akron Art Museum’s children’s programs and the Italian-American Professional Business Club Scholarship Fund. Guests are welcome to shop, enjoy chilled Prosecco and connect with professionals, all while supporting art education and scholarships. The event is free and open to the public.

Congratulations are in order for Summit County Court of Common Pleas Judge Jennifer Towell, who has been honored with the Woman of Achievement Award from the Women’s Network Leadership Institute at the Greater Akron Chamber. A dedicated public servant and Bath resident, Jen has made significant contributions to the community, including founding a local chapter of Buddy Up Tennis for children and young adults with Down syndrome. Her commitment to mentoring others and breaking down barriers highlights her exceptional leadership. Jen and her family continue to inspire with their dedication to enhancing the lives of those around them.
