October in review: celebrating community, learning and honoring veterans
This past October, Nordonia Hills City Schools were buzzing with excitement, activities and achievements that highlight our district’s commitment to excellence and community engagement. Each school contributed to a vibrant month, showcasing the dedication of students, staff and families.
At Nordonia High School, our varsity football team continued its playoff journey. Sophomore Olivia May broke records and qualified for the OHSAA state cross-country meet. The high school band received a superior rating at the state competition, a tremendous achievement that reflects the talent and dedication of our musicians and staff. Students also showcased their creativity with the fall musical, highlighting our performing arts program.
Nordonia Middle School’s popular “Monster Dash” brought students together in costume for a fun run around the campus. The “Fill the Bus” campaign successfully collected food donations to support local families. Students participated in a week of spirit-building activities that promoted school pride, teamwork and friendship, culminating in a pep rally that reinforced the bonds among students and staff.
Lee Eaton Intermediate School had an eventful month as sixth-graders eagerly prepared for their upcoming camp experience – a memorable tradition that fosters team-building, outdoor learning and friendships. Students enjoyed a second-quarter switch in intramurals, exploring new activities that kept them active and engaged. The school’s student council and PTA collaborated to host a special pumpkin patch event, complete with face painting, craft stations and a pumpkin sale, creating a fall celebration that brought together students, families and staff.
At Rushwood Elementary, October’s highlights included the annual costume walk. Teachers and staff dressed as Minions, adding a playful touch that delighted both students and parents. Throughout the month, Rushwood focused on celebrating cultural diversity, with morning announcements featuring students and staff who speak different languages at home, promoting an inclusive environment.
Northfield Elementary celebrated the Halloween parade, Scholastic Book Fair, and “Goodies with Grands,” which brought the school community together. The school also launched a new “Coffee Chat” program for parents, providing informal discussions on school initiatives and student activities. Northfield concluded October by recognizing the PAX Leaders of the Month, honoring students who demonstrate positive behavior and leadership qualities.
Ledgeview Elementary combined creative projects with engaging events for a memorable October. The school’s “Trunk or Treat” event featured games, costumes and treats that brought smiles to students and families. In classrooms, students participated in a tile art project that encouraged them to explore their interests and build connections with classmates. Ledgeview’s fall carnival brought families together for a day of games and activities, with the PTA donating prizes. The month concluded with the book fair and an ice cream social.
Across the district, October was a month of strategic planning. Feedback sessions gathered input from parents, students, staff and community partners. These insights will help shape our collective vision for Nordonia Hills City Schools, reaffirming our commitment to student success, community engagement and operational excellence.
In November, the district honored Veterans Day, a time when our schools express gratitude for those who have served. This day of recognition allows students to learn about and appreciate the sacrifices of veterans in our community.
During this season of Thanksgiving, we extend our deepest gratitude to the Nordonia Hills community. Our schools are filled with energy, purpose and pride, all made possible by the support of families, educators and community members. Thank you for making October a remarkable month, and here’s to a November filled with appreciation, growth and continued success! ∞
