Revere Notes
Revere High senior Anya Makkar was recognized by the board of education for creating a plan designed to help staff and teachers assist students struggling with grief following a tragic occurrence in their lives.
Revere High Principal Doug Faris explained that the genesis of Makkar’s actions was the loss of her father in October 2023.
“Inside the document, she details and provides strategies for staff to help students who are overcoming tragedy,” Faris said, adding that her plan has become part of the school’s digital handbook and has already been put to use.
Bath Elementary student Lucas Salem was recognized for discovering a shortcut to multiplying two- or three-digit numbers by 11 and presenting his findings to the class. “What sets Lucas apart is his eagerness to go above and beyond the standard curriculum,” said Sandy Kahoe, his teacher.
Another Bath student, Benny Slusarz, was cited by his signing teacher, Rachel Vitez, for partnering in class with a fellow student, who is deaf, and ensuring that she was included in all class activities.
Richfield Elementary students Damian Nakonieczny, Hailey Blystone and Layla Venditti led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag to begin the board of education meeting.
Seventy-six students turned out for first-year orchestra at Bath Elementary and 36 fifth-graders are involved in second-year orchestra. Their first performance will be Dec. 5 in the high school auditorium.
Fourth-graders at Bath focused on bully prevention techniques in connection with Unity Day. They learned four ways to become upstanders during bullying incidents.
