Rumpke can now recycle plastic clamshell containers
Richfield residents can add plastic clamshell containers to their recycling carts. Rumpke Waste and Recycling announced that they now have artificial intelligence and optic technology that removes clamshells at their recycling center in Columbus.
The products that can be recycled include clear-plastic carryout containers, plastic fruit, lettuce and egg containers, and clear plastic deli tubs and cups.
After processing the plastic containers, Rumpke will bale the clamshells and ship them to a partner manufacturer that will recycle them into plastic pellets for use in the production of new plastic products. Plastic items that cannot be recycled are black and white clamshell containers, plastic deli trays, cake containers with a clear plastic lid and plastic packaging on purchased items.
