Easter Sunrise Service
First Congregational Church of Hudson invites the community to greet the Easter dawn at an outdoor Sunrise Service on Sunday, April 20, at 6:15 a.m., at Hudson Springs Park, 7095 Stow Rd. Dress for the weather and bring a chair if you wish.
This year, the First Congregational Church of Hudson celebrated the Rev. Dr. Peter Wiley’s 20th anniversary as pastor of the church. In his first few weeks in the church, Wiley decided to initiate a sunrise service. He remembers it being a “disaster! We held it in the church courtyard, and everyone showed up in their Easter finest. However, the temperature outside was freezing. Everyone was miserable.” Despite the rocky start, Wiley wanted to keep the tradition alive. The church decided to move the service to Hudson Springs Park and it has been a success ever since, “especially since everyone learned to dress in warm clothes,” said Wiley. Over the years, a fire pit has been added and crowd size has grown to over 300 people from many denominations coming to see the sun rise, watch the dove release at the end of the service and shout out “He is Risen!”
This year’s service will be held outside May Pavilion in Hudson Springs Park on Easter morning, April 20, at sunrise (starting at 6:15 a.m.). All are welcome. Just remember to dress for the weather.
