Nordonia Hills Branch Library events

Adult programs

Thursday book discussion: A monthly meeting to discuss fiction and nonfiction titles in a casual group setting. Copies of each title will be available at the Nordonia Hills Branch Library one month prior to the discussion. Aug. 8: “After Annie” by Anna Quindlen.

Nordonia Hills game time: July 20, Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. Play games including chess, board and Euro games, role-playing games, mah-jongg and regular and trading card games. All ages welcome.

Writer’s Guild of Nordonia Hills: July 17, Aug. 21, 6:30 p.m. New writers and old hands welcome, fiction, nonfiction and everything in between. Have your work critiqued and give feedback to others in a fun and friendly environment. Bring a sample of your work to share.

Intro to rain barrels: June 25, 6:30 p.m. Join representatives from Summit Soil and Water Conservation District to learn about what rain barrels are, the benefits they provide and how to set up your own. Registration required.

 

Children’s programs

Baby time: July 11, July 18, 10:15 a.m. Baby time features books, bounces, songs and bubbles followed by a playtime. For ages 2 and under. Registration required.

Paws for reading: June 24, July 9, July 22, Aug. 13 and Aug. 26 at 6:30 p.m. Read a book to a certified therapy dog. Bring a book or read a library book. Children of all ages are welcome. Registration required.

 

School age programs

Summer reading fun: Tuesdays at 2 p.m. Tickets are available, first come first serve, 30 minutes prior to the program.

June 25: Enjoy a hands-on event for kids of all ages. See captive-born exotic animals up close and personal with Outback Ray.

July 2: Bingo!

July 9: Put your dancing shoes on and be ready to “dance to the music.”

July 16: The Akron ZooMobile stops by the library with zoo friends.

July 23: Learn about some scaled creatures from “A Girl with Scales,” Jen O’Herron.

 

Thrilling Thursdays: Thursday, 4 p.m.

July 25: Design a maze with different pathways and obstacles out of various materials and use hex bugs to see how they respond.

Aug. 22: Learn the basics of circuits and make your artwork light up.  

 

Teen programs

Dungeons and Dragons: June 24, July 8 and July 22 from 6-7:30 p.m. Join the quest at your own peril. Bring your dice and your tankard. Snacks provided.

 

Teen café: Try something new every Wednesday at 2 p.m. during June and July.

June 26: Create a clay chia pet and let it grow.

July 3: Compete in the 12th annual paper airplane contest and win prizes.

July 10: Make twisted candles.

July 17: Bubble science and art.

July 24: Join Miss Sue for pizza and games.

 

Teen Lit Loot: Grades 6-12 are invited to register for the book box service: Lit Loot! Each box will contain two books and an assortment of goodies. ∞
