First Congregational Church of Akron offers LGBTQ+ training

First Congregational Church of Akron, located at 292 E. Market St., Akron, will be hosting Safe Space Ally Training on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 9-11a.m. The event is free and open to the public; however, registration in advance is required. Registration is limited to 60 participants. Email registration requests or questions to events@akronfcc.org.

Ken Ditlevson, director of the LGBTQ+ Center, Division of Student Life, at Kent State University, will present the Safe Space Ally Training. Participants will learn about bias, stereotypes, vocabulary and best practices for handling gender and sexuality topics. All attendants will receive a Safe Space Ally sign for their home or office, indicating both their support of the LGBTQ+ community and their knowledge of basic gender and sexuality concepts.

This training also qualifies for 2 hours/units of Beyond Compliance Certification.
